Hatcher Pass Management Area

Hatcher Pass Management Area is an area full of mountainous terrain consisting of approximately 3000,000 acres of foprested land. Located in the Talkeetna Mountain range. Mountains in this area can climb in various elevations from the lowest area being 100 feet and climbing to 6000 plus feet to the highest summits. the area can be accessed through roads that are paved and is not a far drive from Alaska’s main city, Anchorage.

There are many activities that people partake in within the Hatcher Pass Management area. Some activities include gold panning and berry picking as well as hiking and equestrian activities. People will also ride mountain bikes in the area. There are 30 mountains and glaciers in the area. Some of the easiest and accessible ice caves in the state are in this area. Due to historical mining operations there is the opportunity to visit the Independence Mine State Historical Park, which is also located in the Hatcher Pass Management Area.
